Extracting 13 pounds from the stomach of a 15-year-old child

The medical team at the Digestive System and Liver Unit at Mansoura University Children's Hospital was able to extract 13 pounds from the stomach of a 15-year-old child. The child came to the reception suffering from pain while swallowing. A chest X-ray was performed, which showed the presence of a metal coin in the esophagus. When the case was presented to Professor Dr. Mohamed Ezz, Professor of Digestive System and Head of the Unit, the decision was made to perform an endoscopy to extract the metal coin due to its presence in the esophagus, with difficulty in swallowing. The endoscopy was performed under the supervision of Professor Dr. Ahmed Megahed, Professor of Digestive System, Professor Dr. Sherine El-Zeiny, Assistant Professor of Digestive System, and Dr. Israa Zeinhom, Assistant Lecturer at the Unit. The team of Dr. Ahmed Hassan and Dr. Israa Zeinhom were surprised by the presence of a large number of pounds in the child's stomach, amounting to (13 pounds). Dr. Ahmed Hassan (who holds a professional diploma in the digestive system at the unit) extracted all the pounds safely through the endoscope without complications. Professor Dr. Ashraf El-Sharkawy, Director General of the Children's Hospital, stated that the Digestive System Unit at the Children's Hospital is one of the distinguished units at the level of the Republic, which provides many services related to diseases of the digestive system and liver for children at the level of the Republic.
