Services provided

The unit treats neonatal and premature diseases such as:

• Incomplete lung development in premature infants, which requires placing the child on a ventilator and treating it by injecting urfactant into the laryngeal tube
• Treating jaundice conditions with phototherapy or blood transfusion
• Diagnosing difficult heart conditions using Echo and cardiac catheterization, treating some of them medically, such as septostomy, or treating them surgically, such as patient ductus
• Diagnosis and treatment of microbial infections, especially severe ones, which can cause blood poisoning, pneumonia, and meningitis.
• Diagnosing diseases that require urgent surgery and following them up after surgery
• Treating cases of neonatal asphyxia by cooling the brain starting in the first six hours of life.
• Diagnosis of nervous system injuries using an ultrasound device through the fontanel
• Diagnosis of nervous system injuries using a 24-hour EEG device
• Preparing intravenous nutrition solutions for cases inside and outside the neonatal unit
• The unit serves a number of governorates, such as (Damietta - Western - Eastern - Port Said - Kafr El-Sheikh, ..........) where the unit treats cases of uterine age deficiency. (Premature) and full-grown children who suffer from respiratory or bile problems, as well as microbial infections and birth defects, as well as cases of convulsions in newborns, and newborns who suffer from major congenital defects in the heart, digestive system, and central nervous system, which includes medical care. Necessary before and after surgeries to correct these birth defects

The faculty members of the unit also teach this specialty to undergraduate and graduate students, in addition to clinical training for Egyptian and Arab doctors in the field of neonatology.

Scientific and teaching activity

1. Teaching the pediatric neonatology course for undergraduate students.
2. Teaching a neonatal course for graduate students.
3. Training students in the field of neonatology and neonatal resuscitation.
4. Conducting courses and workshops for distinguished doctors, the Ministry of Health, Egyptian and foreign fellowships, and a number of Arab doctors in the field of neonatology and neonatal resuscitation.

1. The First International Advanced Course in Neonatology, September 2005.
2.  The second advanced international course in neonatology in April 2008, in which a number of doctors participated (Egypt - Armenia - Palestine).
3. The third advanced international course in neonatology, November 2008, in which a number of doctors participated (Egypt - Nigeria - Libya - Palestine).
4. The Fourth International Course in Fundamentals of Neonatology, December 2009.
5. The First International Session of the LittleBigSouls Association, June 2010, Abuja, Nigeria.
