Establish

  • An outpatient clinic that receives approximately 15700 pediatric surgery patients throughout the year.
  • Inpatients ward with a capacity of 27 beds on the third floor of the hospital. On average, we receive 1640 patients a year.
  • Surgical intensive care unit with 4 beds and 2 incubators.
  • The operating theater active 5 days a week containing 2 working operating rooms.
  • An emergency operating theater.
  • A one day surgery ward containing 5 beds.

Goals

We admit, diagnose and treat all pediatric surgical cases being elective, urgent or emergent till the age of 18 years. These patients are subjected to a wide range of surgical procedures that may range from very simple procedures to those that require a high degree of skill. We also follow up these patients postoperatively in our outpatient clinic. Our unit serves the people of the DakahliaGovernate, in addition to the surrounding governates due to the lack of pediatric surgery services in such areas

Procedures performed:

Neonatal surgery:

  • Oesophageal atresia with tracheo-oesophageal fistula.
  • Congenital diaphragmatic hernia.
  • Infantile hypertrophic pyloric stenosis.
  • Neonatal intestinal obstruction.
  • Midgutmalrotation.
  • Anorectal malformations.

Laparoscopic and thoracoscopic surgery

  • Diagnostic and therapeutic management of nonpalpable undescended testes.
  • Diagnostic and therapeutic management of ambiguous genitalia.
  • Repair of congenital diaphragmatic hernia.
  • Laparoscopic assisted correction of Hirschsprung's disease.
  • Laparoscopic treatment of midgutmalrotation.
  • Laparoscopic varicocelectomy.
  • Laparoscopic appendectomy.
  • Laparoscopic cholecystectomy.

Pediatic gastrointestinal surgery:

  • Correction of gastro-esophageal reflux disease.
  • Splenectomy.
  • Cholecystectomy.
  • Transanalendorectalpullthrough for treatment of Hirschsprung's disease.
  • Posterior sagittal anorectoplasty for treatment of anorectal malformations.

Pediatric plastic surgery:

  • Cleft lip.
  • Cleft palate.
  • Syndactly.

Pediatric oncology

  • Wilms tumor and neuroblastoma.
  • Excision of hepatic tumors.
  • Excision of ovarian tumors.
  • Sacrococcygealteratomas.

Pediatric urology

  • Hypospadius surgery and we are distinguished in performing the modified.
  • Koyanagiurethroplasty for one stage management of severe degrees of hypospadias.
  • Repair of bladder extrophy.
  • Epispadius correction.
  • Undescended testicle.

Important activities:

  • The separation of the conjoint twins Saber and Belal by a surgical team composed of pediatric surgeons lead by Professor Mohammed El-Ghazaly Wali. The team also included members from neurosurgery led by Professor HatemBadr, from urology led by Professor Mohammed Dawaba and from Plastic surgery led by Professor Mohammed El-Hadidi. This operation was a major undertaking and was the first one of its kind to take place in Egypt.
  • The introduction of laparoscopy and thoracoscopy to Mansoura University Children's Hospital
  • Hosting a multinational surgical team for the past five consecutive years (2008-2012)for the treatment of patients suffering from cleft lip and palate
